The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued the following weather alerts for Monday.
Excessive heat watch: northern Texas; Oklahoma Panhandle.
Excessive heat warning: central California; northern and northeastern Nevada; northern, central northeastern and southeastern South Dakota; northwestern Nebraska; Oklahoma; central Texas; northwestern Arkansas.
Heat advisory for portions of: central and eastern Montana; North Dakota; South Dakota; North Central and southeastern Wyoming; Western, Central and northeastern Nebraska; Kansas; northeastern Colorado; northwestern, southwestern, central and east-central New Mexico; Texas; Oklahoma; Arkansas; northern Louisiana; western and south-central Minnesota.
Flood watch: southwestern Indiana, southern Ohio, northern Kentucky, Washington, D.C., central and western Maryland, eastern West Virginia, and northern Virginia.
High wind warning: western and central Montana.
Red flag warning: northern California; central and southeastern Idaho; western and eastern Wyoming; southwestern South Dakota; western Nebraska.
A heat wave kicks off on Monday that is poised to topple a number of records in various locations, and the high temperatures are expected to expand and bring above-average temperatures to most of the nation through the end of July.
The area most impacted will be the central US, but cities in western, eastern and northern locations will also see either 100+ temperatures or triple-digit heat indexes over the next three days including Salt Lake City, Billings, North Platte, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Dodge City, Tulsa, Laredo, Dallas, Kansas City, Memphis, Fargo, and Minneapolis.

Scattered thunderstorms in the Southwest, along the northern tier and for much of the east on Monday, while a flood risk to the mid-Atlantic and strong winds will bring red flag alerts (see NWS alerts above).
The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has issued severe weather risk warnings on three fronts. The first is a Level 3 severe weather risk over northeastern Montana and northern North Dakota. The second is a Level 2 severe weather risk that extends from northeastern Montana across the northern half of North Dakota, northern Minnesota, and into northern Wisconsin and northern Michigan. The third extends from the mid-Atlantic into the Northeast, with a Level 2 severe weather risk over portions of Maryland, Delaware, eastern Pennsylvania, northern New Jersey, southern and eastern New York, western Connecticut, western Massachusetts, central and southern Vermont, and southwestern New Hampshire.
Scattered thunderstorms over parts of the Southwest, South, Southeast and along the northern tier from the central US across the Great Lakes into the Northeast.
The SPC has issued a Level 2 severe weather risk for the upper Midwest over northeastern North Dakota, northern and East-central Minnesota, northern Michigan, into northern and central Wisconsin.
Scattered thunderstorms over parts of the West and Southwest, as well as into parts of the South, Southeast, mid-South, Ohio Valley and mid-Atlantic.
The SPC has issued a Level 2 severe weather risk in the East over northern Kentucky, western and northern West Virginia, southern central and eastern Ohio, western Pennsylvania and extreme western New York.
