The Christmas travel nightmare continues as a powerful storm has led to additional flight cancellations, travel difficulties across the nation, as well as power outages in several states in the West; plus, more weather news.

Winter weather coast-to-coast as the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued the following alerts for Monday, December 27:

Blizzard warning: western North Dakota; northeast Minnesota; northern Wisconsin.

Winter storm warning: northern, north-central, south-central, southern California; western Nevada; northeast and eastern Oregon; southeast Washington; southwestern and southeastern Idaho; northern and eastern Utah; southeastern Wyoming; western Colorado; western Nebraska; central and western North Dakota; central and northern Minnesota; northern Wisconsin.

Heavy snow alert for Monday:

Heavy snow is possible in the following areas: southwestern Oregon; northwestern, northeastern, and east-central California; western Nevada; northern and northeastern Utah; western Colorado; north-central New Mexico; north-central and eastern North Dakota; northeastern Minnesota, northwestern Wisconsin.

Freezing rain/ice storm alert

On Monday, the National Weather Service has issued the following alert for potential freezing rain and ice storms in the following areas: northern Michigan; northeastern West Virginia; Pennsylvania; New York; northern New Jersey; northwestern Connecticut; western Massachusetts; Southern Vermont; southwestern New Hampshire.

Massive storm in West, nearly 90K without power

A massive storm is affecting 11 states in the West, leading to multiple weather warnings, watches, and advisories, as well as power outages. California is experiencing the greatest power outages with nearly 75,000 without electricity as of 7:30 AM on Monday, according to tracking site poweroutage.us. Nearly 10,000 customers were without power in Oregon and another 4,070 in Washington.

Heavy snow, storms blocking road travel, extending flight delays

Some 8,000 flights were canceled in the US over the weekend, with roughly 200 main and connecting flights canceled on Sunday, as storms in the western United States continue.

On Monday, roughly 2,000 flights were canceled globally, with at least 629 of those expected to occur in the US, NBC reported.

Roadway travel disrupted

Roadway travel has also been severely hampered, especially in the West. A 20-vehicle pileup occurred in northwestern Nevada on Sunday. CBS reported that the National Weather Service warned of “widespread whiteout conditions” and strong winds through Tuesday, with some areas extremely difficult, if not impossible, and suggested Thursday would be the best time to travel.
