Today will bring hot conditions in the West, rain, and storms across the Midwest and Northeast with a large area of flash flood risk across the upper Midwest and South East, while severe storms loom across the South; plus more of today’s weather news and forecast.
The National Weather Service (NWS) is issuing a warning over heavy rain that could bring flash flooding to 8 states on Thursday.
In the upper Midwest, five states could see flooding in portions of northern Missouri; southeastern and eastern Iowa; western and northern Illinois; southern, eastern and northeastern Wisconsin; and northern Michigan.
In the Southeast, three states are under the threat of flooding including northeastern South Carolina, eastern North Carolina, and eastern Virginia.
Severe storms will span across southern Texas and throughout the South, extending east to the Carolinas and Virginia on Thursday. The severe storms will stay north of Florida and extend northward to the mid-South into Kentucky.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a severe thunderstorm warning over two separate fronts. The first is over southern Texas around San Antonio and extending outward. The second front is over portions of central, eastern, and northeastern Mississippi and into Western and northwestern Alabama.
To the west, strong storms could also kick up in portions of Colorado around Denver and surrounding areas.
High temperature records could be set as hot weather will bake portions of the West including California, Nevada and Utah, with particularly hot conditions and heat advisories in the Southwest into Southern California, southern Nevada, Arizona, southern New Mexico and southwest Texas.
